Clemens Six, born in 1975, studied history and theology at the universities of Salzburg and Vienna. He is consultant of the UNESCO in Paris and employee at the Austrian Research Foundation for International Development (ÖFSE). His main focus lies on the contemporary history of India, religious fundamentalism, international development cooperation and development policy of the European Union.
    [books_zum_Buch] => Die Zukunft der Atommacht Indien wird im Allgemeinen sehr zuversichtlich eingeschätzt. Eine rasch wachsende städtische Mittel- und Oberschicht vermag zunehmend, sich nicht nur als attraktiver Absatzmarkt, sondern auch als aktiver Player in die Prozesse der Globalisierung einzubringen und sich auch entsprechend als politisches Schwergewicht zu positionieren. Dieser Paradigmenwechsel vom einst schlafenden Elefanten zum agilen Dickhäuter in den internationalen Beziehungen löst innerhalb Indiens weit reichende Veränderungen aus, die auch das kollektive Selbstverständnis dieses Landes betreffen. Indien macht sich erneut auf die Suche nach sich selbst und stößt dabei unter anderem auch auf die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von Politik und Religion, das die ehemalige britische Kolonie bereits beschäftigt hat und unterschiedlich beantwortet wurde. Aufgrund der nach wie vor starken Präsenz des Religiösen als bestimmender Faktor gesellschaftlicher Wirklichkeit kommt dieser Verhältnisbestimmung insbesondere unter den gegenwärtigen Umständen eines allerorts spürbaren Um- und Aufbruches zentrale Bedeutung zu. 
Dieses Buch versucht, die historischen Linien der unterschiedlichen Beziehungen von Politik und Religion in Indien nachzuzeichnen und anhand ausgewählter Beispiele vom religiösen Nationalismus des Unabhängigkeitskampfes bis zum religiösen Terrorismus der Gegenwart die ungeheure Dynamik dieses Feldes zu erschließen. Die historischen Fallbeispiele aus der kolonialen Epoche wie auch der jüngsten Vergangenheit Indiens sind angesichts der Aktualität dieses Thema ein Beitrag zu einem fundierten Verständnis der internen Entwicklungen eines Landes, das auch Europa in Zukunft angesichts des zu erwartenden internationalen Bedeutungsgewinnes beschäftigen muss und auch wird.

<p>The future of the nuclear power India is considered to be a confident one. A quickly growing urban middle and upper class manages not only to position itself as an attractive market but also as an active player in the processes of globalisation and therefore as an important  political force. This paradigma shift from the once sleeping elephant to the agile pachyderm of international relations has triggered off a big change within India that also affects its national identity. India strikes out to search its identity and issues therewith the question of the relation of politics and religion, which has already been considered more than once and always answered differently. Because of the strong presence of religion as a decisive factor of social reality the determination of this relation has a central meaning. </p>
<p>This study tries to trace the historical lines of the different relations of politic and religion in India and to open up the enormous dynamic of this field by the means of selected examples, from the religious nationalism of the independent struggles to the religious terrorism of the present day. The historical case studies of the colonial period and the recent past are an important contribution to the understanding of the internal developments of a nation that will have in the future an important role for Europe because of its increasing significance.</p>

He is consultant of the UNESCO in Paris and employee at the Austrian Research Foundation for International Development (ÖFSE).
