Viel Glück! Migration Heute

Viel Glück! - Viele tausende Male wünschen Menschen ihren Verwandten und Bekannten »Viel Glück!«, wenn sie in eine unbekannte Zukunft, in ein anderes Land aufbrechen. Migration funktioniert in Zeiten strenger Grenzsicherungen und verschärfter Migrations- und Asylgesetze in der Tat nur mit viel Glück. Die Rolle der EU- »Harmonisierungsbestrebungen« im Bereich Migration und Asyl und deren Auswirkungen auf nationale Migrationspolitiken sowie auf die Betroffenen, ist einer der Themenkreise, die behandelt werden. Der geographische Fokus liegt auf Österreich, Kroatien, Serbien und der Türkei. Historisch verbunden durch die Anwerbe- und Entsendepolitiken in den 1960er Jahren haben diese vier Länder im Globalisierungsprozess der vergangenen zwei Jahrzehnte neue Migrationsbewegungen erfahren.
Das Buch widmet sich der Migrationsgeschichte und -politik in diesem Raum. Themen wie Arbeitsmigration, neue staatliche Kontrollmechanismen von Migration und Asyl, transnationale Migration und Queer Migration werden anhand von aktuellen Fallstudien beleuchtet. Es geht aber auch um utopische Entwürfe von Migrationsprozessen: Wird es etwa in zwanzig, fünfzig oder hundert Jahren noch Grenzen oder Nationalstaaten geben?
Abgerundet wird der Bild- und Textband mit einer Dokumentation über zwei Ausstellungen im Herbst 2010 in Wien, die sich dem Thema Migration in künstlerischen und kulturellen Produktionen widmen.

Good Luck! Many thousand times people wish their relatives and friends »Good luck!«, when the latter leave for another country, without any knowledge of their future.
Indeed, migration succeeds only with luck in times of strict border controls and tightened migration and asylum laws.
One of the subjects this book engages in is the role of the EU's attempts of harmonisation in the field of migration and asylum and their effects on national migration policy as well as on the people concerned.
The geographical focus lies on Austria, Croatia, Serbia and Turkey. These areas are historically connected by the politics of recruiting and dispatch of the 1960s and they have experienced new migration movements in the process of globalisation in the last two decades.
The book deals with the history of migration and migration policy in this area. Subjects like labour migration, new stately control mechanisms of migration and asylum, transnational migration and queer migration are dealt with. But also utopian plans of migration processes are discussed: Will there be any borders or national states in twenty, fifty or hundred years?
This illustrated reader is rounded off with a documentation of two exhibitions in Vienna in autumn 2010 that engage in the subject migration with artistic and cultural productions.
